Cherimoya, also called chirimoya or custard apple, is native to southern Ecuador and northern Peru. Today, it is grown in tropical regions, including South and Central America, California, Hawaii, South Asia, and northern Africa. The fruit has a green, irregular oval shape with creamy white flesh and large black seeds.

Nutritional Benefits
Cherimoya is high in fiber, cholesterol-free, and rich in iron, niacin, potassium, copper, magnesium, and several B vitamins. It also contains polyphenolic antioxidants that may protect against cancer.

Health Benefits

  • Anti-cancer: Compounds like acetogenin, asimcin, and bullatacin in cherimoya have shown potential to inhibit cancer cell growth.
  • Digestive health: High fiber content aids digestion and relieves constipation.
  • Hair growth & lice removal: Nutrients like vitamin C, iron, magnesium, and zinc support hair growth. Ground dried seeds can be used as a natural lice treatment.
  • Heart health: Vitamin C and a balanced sodium-potassium ratio improve blood flow, reduce free radicals, and support healthy blood pressure.
  • Immune support: Rich vitamin C content strengthens the immune system and helps prevent colds and flu.
  • Skin health: Antioxidants fight aging, while vitamin C promotes collagen production for healthy, elastic skin.

Consumption Tips
Eat cherimoya by scooping out the flesh and discarding the seeds. It can also be added to smoothies, fruit cocktails, or milkshakes.

Caution
Due to its high fructose content, diabetics should consume cherimoya in moderation.
