Diarrhea can be triggered by a variety of viruses, including rotavirus, herpes simplex, and hepatitis, as well as certain harmful bacteria that disrupt the digestive system. It can also be a symptom of a range of conditions, from mild stomach upset to more serious health issues.

Sometimes, diarrhea occurs due to a “disturbed stomach” caused by eating spoiled food, drinking contaminated water, infections, influenza, or even fasting. Digestive problems, intestinal disorders, and parasitic infections can also be underlying causes.

Diarrhea is often accompanied by dehydration, nausea, stomach cramps, loss of appetite, and sometimes fever. Because it causes significant fluid loss, it’s important to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Fortunately, there are several natural remedies that can help ease diarrhea without side effects:

Coriander (Cilantro)
Coriander is a versatile herb packed with nutrients. Its leaves contain protein, fiber, minerals, carbohydrates, water, and an array of vitamins including vitamin C, carotene, thiamine, riboflavin, calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, and potassium. Using dried coriander can help relieve diarrhea naturally.

Blueberries
Blueberries are rich in antioxidants. Their benefits can be amplified by pairing them with probiotics found in yogurt or other fermented foods. Fresh blueberries help cleanse the body, while dried blueberries can help stop diarrhea.

Ginger
Ginger has natural analgesic, antibacterial, and soothing properties. Studies have shown it to be effective in treating diarrhea, nausea, and conditions like morning sickness or chemotherapy-related digestive issues. To make a soothing tea, steep 2 tablespoons of fresh ginger root in hot water for 15 minutes, then strain. Add honey and lemon for taste.

Mint
Mint can help calm the digestive system. Mix fresh mint juice with lemon juice and add half a tablespoon of honey to balance the flavors. Drink this mixture three times a day for best results.
